Pick 55 in Round 2: WR XAVIER WORTHY, TEXAS
The Browns require another dynamic wide receiver, ideally with quickness. Worthy isn’t a flawless prospect, but he doesn’t lack quickness either. He set nearly every Texas freshman receiving record in his first season as a starter for the Longhorns.
Though Worthy’s NFL speed can make a big difference, his footwork, acceleration, one-cut speed, and vertical speed must all be considered on every play. His overall play strength is questionable, which prevents him from projecting to be a WR1 in the NFL. However, as a backup wide receiver in this Browns offense? He is the perfect candidate for that position.
ROUND 3, PICK 86: FLORIDA STATE’S DI BRADEN FISKE
Dalvin Tomlinson, the middle linebacker for the Browns, is over thirty years old. Shelby Harris’s contract was only for a year, too. This suggests that Cleveland could select an interior defensive lineman on the second round.
Although Fiske weighs less than 300 pounds (295), he is small for an interior defensive lineman and has an explosive first step as a one-gap penetrating pass rusher. He completed five of his last seven games with a pass-rush victory percentage of at least 10%. Although the Browns already have some good defensive line rotation players on their roster, they lack true pass rushers such as Fiske.
LB, ROUND 5, PICK 138 EICHENBERG, Tommy, Ohio State
Right now, the Browns have a strong group of off-ball linebackers, led by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who is more of an excellent defensive chess piece. As Sione Takitaki is a potential free agent, Eichenberg would be a useful depth player for that team.
Eichenberg, a wise and seasoned linebacker, started all three of Ohio State’s seasons. Despite his physical limitations, he might play a greater supporting role to Owusu-Koramoah.
OT NATHAN THOMAS, LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE, ROUND 5, PICK 159
Although the Browns’ interior offensive line is among the best in the NFL, Jedrick Wills’ play at tackle hasn’t been as consistent. Although Willis is still guaranteed for another season, Cleveland would eventually benefit from selecting a young offensive lineman in the draft. Who knows? If Wills’ play does not get better, maybe they will strike it rich and be able to let go of him.
- Thomas has the size and power profile to be considered as an NFL tackle at 6-foot-5 and 335 pounds. His finest season with the Ragin’ Cajuns came this year, as he only allowed 13 pressures on 408 pass-blocking snaps.
