Over the past two seasons, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers has established himself as one of the league’s top route runners. The guy is apparently hoping to become one of the highest-paid NFL players, and the team and player are having trouble negotiating a contract.

After the Super Bowl, Aiyuk was mentioned in NFL trade rumours right away. Even if San Francisco resolved its salary-cap dilemmas for the 2024 campaign, more significant issues still lie ahead. After this upcoming season, Aiyuk’s contract expires, and the 49ers will need to resign a number of important players before 2025.

Troubling update for San Francisco 49ers on Brandon Aiyuk contract talks

NFL rumours have even suggested what the 49ers would seek in return for Aiyuk. The top wideout isn’t being moved, according to general manager John Lynch, who has stated that a deal is being worked on. Though he seems upbeat in public, things don’t seem to be going well behind the scenes.

Although there has been some communication this summer, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Saturday, Aiyuk and the 49ers are currently in somewhat of a “standoff.”

We’re not close, and from what I hear, they’ve recently made an attempt. It’s not as though they haven’t spoken at all. Essentially, there is currently a minor standoff.
