Perez was upgraded from 18th place to 16th after Haas pair Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg were disqualified for a rear-wing technical breach. Perez had been eliminated in the first round.

During the first lap’s ascent up the hill, Magnussen tried to pass Perez but spun the Mexican driver into the barrier at a high rate of speed, tearing the suspension from its mounting points and totaling the vehicle.

After a protracted red flag for barrier repairs, Perez angrily confronted Magnussen’s approach, and the stewards refused to look into the matter any further. Marko also said that Red Bull was facing a multi-million dollar bill.

He said to Sky Germany, “This is costing us about two to three million, and with the budget cap that is of course a big handicap.”
