Few players on the football field have had as much of an influence in the secondary during the last seven seasons as veteran cornerback Darius Slay, who played for the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles and was named to six Pro Bowls and one All-Pro.
Despite his success since joining the Eagles, it seems that he gave serious thought to quitting the organisation during the last NFL offseason to play for the Baltimore Ravens alongside Lamar Jackson and company. This would have been a significant blow for Philadelphia.
But even though Slay was committed to Baltimore and prepared to play for the Ravens, the Eagles gave it one more go at getting him back, with Dom DiSandro, also known as Big Dom, phoning the seasoned cornerback to persuade him to play again (via @dunphy215 on Twitter).
Despite the fact that DiSandro’s sideline incident that cost him the game last season garnered him a lot of attention, the legendary team appears to recognise his contributions to the team because they just promoted him.
Slay, who played in just 12 games the previous season, will aim to maintain his influence in Philadelphia while attempting to stay healthy and on the field in 2024.
