Russell Martin, the manager of the SAINTS, described how his team will provide Joe Rothwell with “every bit of detail” to make sure he swiftly catches up.
Rothwell just recently joined Southampton on loan from AFC Bournemouth, but he has already been confirmed to play against Swansea City on Saturday.
The midfielder will need to adapt to Martin’s approach during a challenging Championship campaign because he joined the team halfway through the season.
Martin talked on how Southampton’s coaching staff will assist Rothwell in rapidly gaining an understanding of the system in an interview with the Daily Echo.
“He’s going to have his brain fried for a week or two,” he declared. We must provide him with every piece of information we have and every piece of proof we can muster on the training field.
“Both inside this space and outside on the training field, we will train him to the bone. He will converse with the other players and be there at every second.
It’s our responsibility to expose him to as many matchday scenarios as we can throughout practice. Hopefully, he will get a deeper understanding. He is going to be on the field soon.
“We’ll have proof to show him why some of the details are crucial when he gets there.
“It is about developing his comprehension and his relationships with the other players on the team.”
Since moving from Blackburn to Bournemouth on a free transfer, Rothwell has made 31 appearances in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old played in 149 Championship games for Blackburn before that.
Martin went on, “He is a bright boy and a good football player.” “When I met with him on Wednesday, he appeared worn out from all the material we had given him, both emotionally and physically.
“The guys from the Premier League had a great week off. The majority of them are enjoying some sun in the Middle East. He remained at this location in the hopes of closing this deal.
Even so, by the end of the session, you would have thought he had been gone.
It’s been a pleasure working with him. He’s going to be amazing.”
