In order to defeat West Ham in tonight’s FA Cup third round replay, Liam Manning thinks his Bristol City team will need to step up from their showing in last week’s 1-1 draw in Stratford.

Nine days ago, the Robins overcame a 1-1 deficit to earn a second chance at the tie. Now, they are getting ready to take on an injured West Ham team that is without numerous important players because of international duty and injuries.

However, Manning, who worked for West Ham’s Academy for four years before leaving the team in 2019, is aware that his squad is still the underdog, despite the fact that many people, including some Hammers supporters, believe a giant-killing may occur at Ashton Gate.

When asked if his team will have to play more aggressively, Manning said, “Quite possibly.” The most important thing is that we need to continue focusing at the same level as we did that day.

Additionally, we showed bravery by remaining calm in the face of their determined efforts to stop us. We engaged in play, forged connections, and showed mutual trust when handling the ball—all crucial skills that we will require once more.

Naturally, you have to be at your best when facing them. We have no control over their actions or the adjustments they will make; everything you do is based on speculation.

In my opinion, it then turns back to us. What actions did we take that were constructive? What other tasks might we need to complete? Particularly in the latter part of our most recent meeting: how can we build on our confidence, boldness, positivism, and directness to begin the game?

“We spoke about it last time, you can’t step on the pitch and carry any fear,” he said. Of course, there are worry levels, but excitement outweighs anxiety in this case, so the important thing is to make sure our brains and our degree of focus are where they should be.

“And, of course, we must show the level of respect but not be in awe of anything – go do us.”

Manning is also aware of the chance that certain West Ham players’ egos were hurt by the fact they were unable to defeat a lower division team at home right away.

He said, “Your pride can get a little dented every now and then.” “You just need to consider the level.”

But, we deserve credit for our exceptionally high level, which caused them to a little lower theirs. But we must anticipate that they will perform to the best of their abilities. That’s just what we did in the previous game, and tomorrow is exactly what we need to anticipate.

“They are a very talented and experienced club that is right up there in the Premier League. However, that comes back to haunt us. We must take advantage of this fantastic opportunity and challenge, especially at home in a loud, jam-packed stadium.”
