The New England Patriots have selected their third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Eliot Wolf, the team’s new general manager, poised to make the biggest choice the team has made in a long time.
Eliot Wolf, the team’s new general manager, will play a significant role in the 2017 NFL Draft decisions for the New England Patriots.
After four years with the Patriots, Eliot—son of renowned Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf—was elevated to the position of general manager and director of scouting for the upcoming campaign.
Ron, his father, was the mastermind behind the Packers’ success, particularly when it came to quarterbacks. He acquired Brett Favre and selected Aaron Rodgers, two of the greatest quarterbacks ever, via trade. Now that he has the third overall pick and needs a quarterback after trading Mac Jones for a sixth-round pick, Eliot has the opportunity to do the same.
The Patriots could select either Jayden Daniels from LSU or Drake Maye from UNC with their third selection. It appears that the Bears have no intention of moving down and will instead choose Caleb Williams with the first overall pick.

After an amazing 2022 season, Maye had long been considered the class’s top prospect. However, in 2023, he struggled in a weaker North Carolina team. Daniels, meanwhile, had an amazing senior season that saw him win the Heisman Trophy and go from being a day three prospect to one of the class’s best players, with 50 touchdowns to just five interceptions.
With so many quarterbacks available in the class, Wolf may want to forgo the choice entirely and take a chance by moving down, earning future draft money and delaying the selection of his signal-caller until later in the class.
In addition to the three previously mentioned players, talents like Bo Nix (Oregon), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), and JJ McCarthy (Michigan) are considered first-round picks and might become available later in the first round if the Patriots decide to trade down. Nevertheless, given the caliber of prospects available at the third choice, it is unlikely that they will.

Bill Belichick, who departed the organization this offseason after 24 seasons as head coach, will not be participating in the draft process for the first time in nearly 20 years.
