JUST IN: Sashi Brown teases a significant development about Ravens uniforms.

The watch for the outfit is on.

During this week’s NFL owners’ meeting in Orlando, Florida, Ravens president Sashi Brown gave reporters a preview of something spectacular that could happen to the team’s shirts.

According to a chronology on the Ravens website, the only changes to the uniform design since 2000 have been colour combinations. Back then, the “raven in flight” badge on the sleeves was replaced with the shield that was on the trousers. The pants had a gold B that was italicised instead of the shield.

Following that, they changed the collar when Nike took over as the manufacturer and introduced a black alternate uniform, white cleats, and commemorative patches. The only significant alteration to the team’s original helmet emblem, which had a crest in the team’s colours with wings, a B in the centre, and Ravens over top, was made in 1999 when the Ravens adopted the purple bird-head logo that is still in use today.

According to Brown, the jerseys’ fundamental qualities haven’t changed in decades.

He remarked, “I think the team did a great job when we had some minor modifications, and we feel like we have really classic jerseys.” Therefore, we take great care when making adjustments to something that we believe to be extremely effective.

Brown also brought up the fact that the NFL establishes the guidelines for the uniforms. It specifies, for instance, where the logo must be placed, how big the numbers must be, and whether different types of helmets are permitted. It also has severe rules about cleats. Players must wear shoes that exactly match the team colour, even if they are different brands, unless it’s the My Cause My Cleats game.

The NFL does, however, permit classic, alternate, or colour rush uniforms, thus the Ravens are experimenting with some new designs in that area.

In 2021, the NHL began collaborating with Adidas to produce jerseys that pay homage to the teams’ past while presenting a modern aesthetic, and the result was the Washington Capitals’ Reverse Retro jersey. But those leagues play a lot more games, which means there are lots more chances to switch up your uniform.

Teams in the NFL have become more inventive. This season, the Philadelphia Eagles revived their Kelly green throwback uniforms. The Detroit Lions wore their Honolulu blue alternate helmets with all-gray outfits, while the Seahawks were decked out in action green jerseys.

Brown hinted that Ravens supporters might be in for something soon, but he would not elaborate.

“My team would shoot me before I could get back to the building, but if I said too much, we have some stuff coming,” Brown jeered.
