Khaleke Hudson, a regular on Washington’s special teams, relished his best defensive opportunity last year. This will present another chance.
Hudson will depart for a chance with the Saints as the Commanders retool in Dan Quinn’s first offseason, which has brought several of the new HC’s previous charges to Washington. Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets that the veteran linebacker is joining New Orleans on a one-year contract.
Not long after Hudson’s visit to the Steelers, this arrangement was reached. Hudson will play in the NFC South; it is unknown if the Steelers, who also employ Cole Holcomb, an ex-Washington linebacker, made an offer. A player who made eight starts in 2023 and an experienced special team member are being added by the Saints.

The 26-year-old former Michigan player only made four starts in his first three seasons. In each of those seasons, the former fifth-round pick for Washington played at least 77% of their ST plays; however, in the last season of the Ron Rivera–Jack Del Rio duo, he entered the starting lineup. Despite the fact that the club was sliding into last place defensively, Hudson made 74 tackles, including five for loss, recorded a sack, and intercepted two passes.
Hudson was ranked midpack by Pro Football Focus, 51st overall at the position. After Jamin Davis sustained a season-ending injury, Hudson started the remaining five games for the Commanders, culminating in a three-TFL performance in Week 18.
Last month, the Saints signed four-year Chiefs starter Willie Gay and extended their contract with ageless starter Demario Davis. Barring an injury, it appears that Hudson has a backup ceiling as a Saint with Pete Werner entering a contract year. However, his run of ST work should strengthen New Orleans’ choices for the third phase before Dennis Allen takes over for a third season.
