The future of Prescott is uncertain, and the team hasn’t made many moves in free agency thus far. DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker suggested Ryan Tannehill, a former quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, as a possible replacement for the quarterback at The Star.
In light of Prescott’s most recent developments, it would be prudent to examine this notion as the former Pro Bowler is still a free agent. In an article titled “Open Market: Intriguing Free Agent QBs for Cowboys,” published on February 13, 2024, Walker provided the following details regarding Tannehill.
Tanehill will turn 36 this season, and Walker stated, “I do believe his days as a starter are now behind him.” At first sight, Walker thought this one would be a bit of a reach. But it doesn’t mean he can’t be a valuable backup, which is why he’s at the top of my list.
In terms of being a possible upgrade over Rush, Tannehill may be worth a look. He also serves as insurance in case Lance doesn’t grow as the Dallas Cowboys would like as they intensify their QB development programme. There may be anything to think about because I find this intriguing at all.
Tannehill, a former Pro Bowler with 151 career starts, would bring a strong resume to the Dallas Cowboys. The veteran signed a four-year, $118 million contract with the Titans, but he is still without a place to call home in free agency. According to Spotrac, Tannehill’s market value is estimated to be a fair $4.9 million for a one-year contract.
In 2020, Tannehill had his best statistical season, finishing 65.5% of his throws for 3,819 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. In 2020, the seasoned player added 266 running yards and 7 receiving touchdowns.
It’s obvious that he would be the Dallas Cowboys’ dependable backup in 2024. If the team decides to part ways with Prescott at any point, he might also play as a bridge quarterback as they look for a long-term solution.
