If a team in need of a quarterback, such as the Denver Broncos, makes an offer, the Cleveland Browns, who have a full quarterback room, may decide to let go of Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
With the Browns, Thompson-Robinson enjoyed an exciting but mixed rookie campaign. After a promising preseason, he gained the Cleveland brass’s trust. Thompson-Robinson was Deshaun Watson’s main backup going into the season. When his number was called, things didn’t go as planned. While Watson was out, the fifth-round pick went 1-2 in his starts, completing passes for 440 yards, one score, and four interceptions.
In fairness, Thompson-Robinson’s first start put him in a difficult situation. In a game against the tough Baltimore Ravens defence, he was called upon for his first regular-season play, and three of his four interceptions came in that contest.
Though he wasn’t perfect, Thompson-Robinson may have recorded enough material to pique clubs’ curiosity. Dawg Pound Daily’s Jared Mueller suggested that the Denver Broncos could make a trade for DTR.
“Maybe the Broncos could find their answer at the position by dealing for Cleveland’s second-year quarterback, given the supply and demand limits among the top of the quarterback class in the 2024 NFL draft,” Mueller stated. “Trading a pick for DTR makes sense with so few assets to work with, Sean Payton not likely to be willing to punt on the season, and the lack of quality QBs available.”
Russell Wilson was cut by the Broncos during the summer. Jarrett Stidham now leads the Denver depth chart. Ben DiNucci, an XFL standout and former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, is next on the list.
Browns Examining Potential Quarterbacks
The Browns have been researching a few of the draftee quarterbacks. Joe Milton stands out the most among them and is anticipated to be available in the latter stages.
Milton has exceptional arm strength and quickness but is an inexperienced passer. On Wednesday, March 27, he ran a 4.55 40-yard dash at 245 pounds during his pro day. Milton and the Browns just had a meeting in Berea.
Last season, Milton completed 64.7% of his passes for 2,831 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions while playing for Tennessee. In addition, he gained 299 yards and 7 touchdowns through the air.
Michael Pratt, the quarterback for Tulane, has also met with the Browns.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson is prepared for the entire Cleveland season.
The Browns are hoping that there won’t be as much talk about the backup quarterback position as there was a year ago. Watson missed two different periods of time due to issues to his shoulder. Despite starting five different quarterbacks, the Browns managed to qualify for the postseason.
Only 12 games have Watson appeared in for the Browns since his arrival via a blockbuster 2022 trade. This year, he hopes to rectify that.
“Simply being able to pull off a full season is the plan,” Watson said to WEWS Cleveland’s Camryn Justice. “We had some issues with the NFL the first year, and then last year there was an injury that happened that I wasn’t really able to control too much.” However, we only get one complete season, and it will be something unique. That is something that the organisation, the locker room, and I all firmly believe. We are assembling a strong candidate.
