What has to be the season’s most rewarding home run was hit by Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Crow-Armstrong was playing against former Major League pitcher Wily Peralta on Friday in a Triple-A game between the Indianapolis Indians of Peralta and the PCA’s Iowa Cubs. The Chicago Cubs selected Crow-Armstrong in the first round of the 2020 draft. He had been hitting well against Indianapolis, with six hits and two home runs in the previous three games. Given that Peralta threw twice at the 22-year-old outfielder, it’s possible that he was trying to convey a message to Crow-Armstrong.
Marty Pevey, the manager of Crow-Armstrong, was sent off for standing up for his player. Then Crow-Armstrong crushed a home run to right field on the following pitch.
Wily Peralta successively throws behind Pete Crow-Armstrong, Marty Pevey is ejected for protecting his player, and then PCA smacks the next pitch a million feet.
For good cause, Crow-Armstrong seemed to be enjoying his excursion around the bases.
PCA participated in 23 games this season and 13 games last season for the Cubs, although he also spent equal time this season in Triple-A with the Iowa Cubs. He’s shown the strength and perseverance that the Cubs most likely love to see.
